BURREN

This song was written during the campaign by the Burren Action Committee to prevent the building of a large visitors center at Mullaghmore in the Burren in County Clare.

Shrouded in mystery legend and history
Barren and beautiful lovely and rare
Silently there displayed visions of yesterday
Land of enchantment the Burren in Clare.

Wild flowers of every hue dance in the early dew
High in the moming sky shrill the birds call
There as in byegone times
Still the wild Kestrel climbs
Dawns silent sentinel hovers and falls
Clear crystal streams abound there amongst rocky ground
Turloughs there glistening far from lifes care
Silently there displayed visions of yesterday
Land of enchantment the Burren in Clare.

Fashioned by natures hand seasoned at her command
Treat not her beauty with greed and disdain
These hills are yours and mine
Safe in the hands of time
There for our children her glories remain
Stealing my heart away dreaming of yesterday
A life in harmony ordered and rare
There in this barren place horne to many early race
Down history's pages the Burren in Clare.
